I’m so excited to finally have my own little corner of the internet to share my art!
I started painting about two years ago, although I’ve always been “artistic.” Growing up, most of my creativity happened digitally in Photoshop and Illustrator. I always thought of it as manipulating shapes, colors, and pieces until they turned into whatever I had pictured in my head.
Funny enough, when I first started painting, every time I made a mistake my brain immediately went:
CTRL + Z.
Turns out… paint does not care about keyboard shortcuts.
It actually took me a while to break that instinct and learn that mistakes are just part of creating something by hand. Sometimes you fix them, sometimes you paint over them, and sometimes they turn into something better than what you originally planned.
Now I’m 41 — freshly 41, actually, since I just celebrated my birthday on August 5th — and I think I finally realized something my younger self never really considered:
I’m an adult. I can buy the art supplies.
Growing up, I didn’t really have the ability to walk into an art store and grab whatever markers, paints, pencils, or random little supplies caught my eye. Apparently, adult me has decided to make up for lost time.
So now I have SO. MANY. MARKERS.
And I love every single one of them.
There’s something really special about finally giving yourself the freedom to explore something you’ve always been drawn to. I’m still learning, experimenting, making mistakes, buying entirely too many art supplies, and figuring out what my style looks like along the way.
And honestly, that’s part of the fun.
Where It Kinda Started…
Two of my very first pieces were Hangry Monster and Space Dog Kennedy.
And honestly, there wasn’t some huge artistic plan behind it. I basically just thought:
“I can make stuff out of clay AND paint it.”
So… I did.
And then I fell in love with it.
That was pretty much the beginning of the rabbit hole. One thing turned into another, and suddenly I was trying resin, clay, polymer clay, painting, markers, mixed media and whatever other random art supply made me think, Oooooh, I wonder what I can do with that.
It’s been a crazy ride ever since.
I’ve made things that I absolutely love, things that came out NOTHING like they looked in my head, and plenty of things that made me wonder what the hell I was thinking.
But that’s probably my favorite part about making art. I don’t really want to stick to just one thing. I like experimenting, figuring things out as I go, and seeing where an idea takes me.
Sometimes it works.
Sometimes it absolutely does not.
But either way, I usually learn something… and then somehow end up buying another art supply.
